Terms of Service
Last updated 8 September 2026 · Stak Technologies, Inc.
1. Agreement
These terms are between you and Stak Technologies, Inc. ("we", "us"), and govern your use of the Pepper application and related services. By installing or using Pepper you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use Pepper.
2. Subscription, trial and billing
- Pepper is offered as an auto-renewing subscription at $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year, in US dollars. Prices in other regions are set by Google Play.
- New subscribers receive a 14-day free trial. You are not charged during the trial. Unless you cancel before it ends, the subscription begins and the first payment is taken automatically.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- Payment is charged to your Google Play account. We do not process or store payment details.
Cancelling
Cancel any time in the Google Play Store under Subscriptions. Pepper's Settings → Subscription screen links you there; cancellation itself is handled by Google, not by the app. Cancelling stops future renewals, and access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.
What happens when your subscription ends
Pepper requires an active subscription to function. When your subscription or trial ends, access to search ends with it — including search over documents you imported yourself. Your documents are not deleted: they remain in the app's storage on your device and become searchable again if you resubscribe. Whether or not you have an active subscription, you can always sign in or out, restore a purchase, manage your subscription, delete your imported documents, and delete your account.
Refunds
Purchases are handled by Google Play and refunds are governed by Google's policies. Contact us at support@stak.cc if something has gone wrong and we will help where we can.
3. Your documents
You keep all rights to the documents you import. We claim no ownership of them and no licence to use them. You are responsible for having the right to use any document you import, and for complying with any confidentiality obligations that attach to it.
4. Accuracy — please read this one
Pepper produces answers from the documents you give it, and those answers can be wrong. It may retrieve the wrong passage, misread a passage, or omit something important. It is a search and reading aid, not an authority.
Do not rely on Pepper alone for medical, legal, financial, safety, electrical, structural or other consequential decisions. Check the cited source, and consult a qualified professional. Pepper is not a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis or expert judgement.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use Pepper to break the law or infringe anyone's rights; do not attempt to circumvent subscription controls or access paid features without a subscription; do not attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to our services, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law.
6. Content packs
Pepper may offer downloadable knowledge packs. These are provided under their own licences, which are shown with each pack, and remain the property of their respective rights holders.
7. Our intellectual property
Pepper, its software, design and trademarks are owned by us. Your subscription grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the application. It transfers no ownership.
8. Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend or discontinue features. Where a change materially reduces what a paid subscription provides, we will give notice in the app before it takes effect. Core on-device functionality is designed to work without a network connection, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
9. Termination
You may stop using Pepper and delete your account at any time — see Delete your account. We may suspend or terminate access for a material breach of these terms, and where practical we will tell you why first.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pepper is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow such exclusions, in which case they do not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to Pepper is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of King County, Washington have exclusive jurisdiction, except where your local consumer law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date above shows the current version, and material changes will be notified in the app before taking effect. Continuing to use Pepper after that constitutes acceptance.
